Leeds RUFC

12 - 29

(HT 12-15)

Chinnor RFC

Leeds Tykes Director of Rugby, Phil Davies couldn’t hide his disappointment after seeing his side go down 12-29 at the hands of a clinical Chinnor.

The hosts took an early lead through centre Tom Williams, who charged down Luke Carter’s box kick and dotted down in the corner.

Chinnor responded immediately through Jason Worral after good work form Goss from the restart.

James Bourton converted to nudge the visitors ahead before scoring himself on 19 minutes to extend their lead to 5-12.

The Tykes hit back just before half time through Andrew Lawson, who was the beneficiary of a flowing passing move. Venables added the extras, levelling the score at 12 apiece.

The visitors kicked a penalty to edge in front on the whistle, 12-15.

The first 10 minutes of the second stanza were uneventful until a brilliant individual score from Kieran Goss, who handed of a would-be defender and sprinted over from 50m, Bourton converted to take the score to 12-22.

In the 61st minute Fred Tuilagi saw yellow for a high tackle but Leeds failed to capitalise on their man advantage.

In the dying stages, as Leeds were pushing to secure a losing bonus, they coughed up possession allowing the visitors to counter and secure try bonus point through William Millet. The conversion was successful, giving a final score of 12-29.

The Oxfordshire side were well deserved winners, who on this form look to have title credentials.

Speaking after the game, a downbeat Phil Davies said: “As ever, the effort of our boys cannot be questioned. We scored some wonderful tries but gave away some avoidable ones too.

“We have to keep going and trust the process.”
