Rams RFC

29 - 11

(HT 17-3)

Leeds RUFC

Leeds Tykes battled against second placed (at the start of the weekend) Rams. The away side started off well, with the lions share of possession in the home side’s half for the first twenty to twenty-five minutes. Venables scored a penalty to take an early lead.

The Rams upped their game, getting hold of the ball, with Vooght and Bird scoring a couple of quick tries before half time. Tykes pulled down Rams’ trademark rolling maul just short off the line, which let Taylor score. This time the conversion was successful. At half time it was 17-3.

The second half started in the same way as the first with Venables scoring an early penalty for a deliberate knock-on. The visiting side were competing across the park, executing their phase play, as both teams enjoyed attacking play from their lineouts. Leeds struggled when The Rams changed their front row, making their scrum much stronger. Until that wholesale change the away side had, had the upper hand in the scrum.

The Rams secured the try bonus point just before the hour when Vooght scored his second at the back of another maul. They scored a fifth try, successfully converted, though not before the Tykes’ defence repelled several Rams attacks.

Leeds had the final say with as Lloyd scored a try after kicking the ball out to Jukes in the wing, who recycled for the scrum-half to sneak in the corner. Final score 29-11.

After the match, Captain Jake Brady said: “This was another step in the right direction. We’re not quite where we want to be at the moment, especially against the better teams. We are getting better week on week.”
